LACEY TURNER is loving her post-EastEnders life. After six-and-a-half years of long hours, with each week planned in detail, the 22-year old is happy to be taking each day as it comes.
Albert Square fans were shocked when Lacey, who played Stacey Branning, decided to quit Walford, leaving on Christmas Day.
But she's still happy with her decision to walk and although she says she'd like to move into film, Lacey has so far only taken a small part in BBC Three's up-and-coming cult series Being Human. But she is thrilled to have more variety.
She said: "I'm going to take a bit of time out and see what happens and take each day as it comes.
"It's very exciting. It's nice because I was in EastEnders for six-and-a-half years and you know what you're going to do the next day and the next week."
Being Human is only Lacey's second ever professional acting job.
She started EastEnders the day after leaving school. The 16-year-old had auditioned for the role of Demi Miller but didn't get it. Instead, she was given the role of Stacey Slater and made her first appearance on November 2004.
So it's no wonder she was nerve-wracked before joining Being Human - the cult BBC3 series about a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost who share a flat.
She said: "Yes, I was, it is the only other TV job I've done since EastEnders.
"It's so different, we shoot 14 scenes a day [in EastEnders], we take about half an hour to an hour to do a scene.
"I go to Cardiff for Being Human and you have the whole day to do a scene.
"On a fast show like EastEnders you don't have the time to do that - you have to decide which way you're going to do it and stick to it.
"So it was nice to have the time to be able to think, 'I'll try this to see if it's better'.
"It was nice because you got to play around with the character and try different things."
For fans it'll be interesting to see if Lacey can be anything but Stacey.
